We had done peer assessment in providing feedback regarding our tutorial task.Instead of the usual routine where the lecturer is responsible in giving feedback, this time we were given the opportunity to evaluate our peers' work. We wrote down the comments. Then, whole class including the lecturer discussed the tutorial task together. In my opinion, using peer assessment in learning definitely encourages our involvement and responsibility.Besides, it also focuses on the development of our judgment skills. Indirectly, this encourages us to think critically and analytically. We can also grab this chance to provide more relevant feedback to our classmates as it is generated by our own peers. Furthermore, peer assessment can help to reduce the ‘free rider’ problem as we are aware that our contribution will
be graded and appreciated by our peers. I sincerely hope this kind of alternative assessment can be carried out frequently. It makes the whole learning process more effective, engaging and interesting.

I actually had fun during this peer assessment session where I believe all of us were able to train our critical thinking skills as well as our assessing abilities in differentiating a good piece of work from a mediocre and a poor one (which I believe wasn't present among ours). A good assessment comes with a plausible justification and I believe these two come hand in hand when it comes to evaluating a piece of work.
Also, this kind of activity promotes independent learning as we learn how to actively evaluate our work (as well as others') and have any present loopholes patched for a more refined final product or piece of work.

We had a very interactive session where we got to speak our minds, argue on our stands and opinions as well as refuting opinions based on our stances and also accepting suggestions in a very friendly manner.

This is a very good example of an activity that can train our higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
