Feedback on today's tutorial task

Well done for today's tutorial work. All of you have prepared well and able to present quite smoothly. However, there is still more room for improvement in terms of delivery and  your presentation skills.
Here are some important points to bear in mind to improve on your presentation and delivery.

1. PowerPoint Slides
Do not overload each slide with large chunks of texts. This practice will hamper your delivery as you tend to be overdependent on reading from slides rather than presenting your points to your audience. Additionally, 'overloading'  can affect the clarity of ideas. Consequently, you lose your audience.

However, I think Ya Vern's group as well as Mohamad's group did quite a good job as they have utilized some Smart Art graphic as well as imported Infographics into their slides.

2. Positioning
When presenting, please make sure that you maintain constant eye contact with your audience. Thus, it is important to position yourself comfortably so that you are facing your audience and not showing your back to them. If you need to refer to the slides, then you should be looking at the laptop screen rather the projected slide from the PROJECTOR. As you have observed just now, some of friends seemed to be talking to the screen instead of the audience.

PRACTICE, and PRACTICE, and LEARN FROM MISTAKES!!!

I think our first lecture this morning kicked off quite smoothly. Here are some of your views on the key terms we discussed this morning.

So, for a start, please put in some comments how we can make our lectures and tutorials more interesting and interactive.

The STAR-NiE Workshop @ IPGKTB

Conducted by the STAR NiE trainer, Lucille Dass, this workshop was made possible through our collaboration with the STAR Publication Bhd.

For about two hours, the participants comprising Semester 3 and 5 TESL student teachers learnt how to turn newspapers into an effective teaching and learning tool.

This event was published in the STAR (STARMETRO) on the 26 April 2014.

As the coordinator of this programme, on behalf of the Language Department, I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the STAR Publication and we hope for its continued support for the years to come.

Creative Teaching Workshop @ IPGKTB

Let's Get Creative... About 40 teachers from the Northern Central Education District participated in this workshop in conjunction with the recent IPG Kampus Tuanku Bainun  Language Carnival.

The facilitators, Dr. Quah and I (Ms Yeoh HH) walked the participants through a few fun and creative hands-on tasks using papers. Pop-up masks, little books and paper magic were created by the end of the workshop session.

It is hoped that teachers will be motivated to use them in their future English lessons.
